GIA joins the newly created Institute of Heritage and Humanities

In 2019, the University of Zaragoza established the Institute of Heritage and Humanities (IPH), following a process initiated in 2017 and supported by nearly forty research groups. Conceived around cultural heritage in both its tangible and intangible dimensions, the new Institute brought together researchers from the Humanities with other disciplines including Architecture, among others. Its creation sought to strengthen interdisciplinary research, facilitate more ambitious collaborative projects and increase the visibility and societal impact of research in these fields.

The Grupo de Investigación en Arquitectura (GIA), led by Belinda López-Mesa, joined the IPH from its creation. This affiliation provided a broader interdisciplinary framework for the group’s research on architecture, housing, the built environment and architectural heritage, and opened new opportunities for collaboration with researchers approaching cultural heritage from complementary perspectives.
