**Women and Architecture in a Spain in Transition, 1962-1999** is a collective work that represents the culmination of extensive research conducted by 30 researchers involved in two consecutive scientific projects coordinated by Lucía C. Pérez-Moreno, Professor at the University of Zaragoza in Spain. This book highlights the integration of women into Spanish architectural culture as a significant paradigm shift that occurred during the Spanish political transition to the current democracy. By examining seven key areas of work—Adapting Institutions, Sharing Education, Facilitating Housing, Designing the Everyday, Embracing Rural Life, Recovering Heritage, and Caring for the Environment—where dedicated women excelled, the book analyzes the agency, decision-making, innovation, and creative capabilities of 26 professionals who navigated a socially and structurally patriarchal and sexist environment. The book confronts three significant challenges: 1) redefining the conventional concept of "pioneer" beyond just "first graduate" to encompass broader architectural concerns; 2) exploring professional experiences both within and outside the spotlight of Madrid and Barcelona; and 3) questioning the conventional relationship between "woman" and "architecture”.
