Koldo Lus Arana

Luis Miguel (Koldo) Lus Arana is Associate Professor (tenured) of Architectural Design and Theory at the University of Zaragoza (Spain) and researcher at the Built4Life Lab.

He graduated in Architecture, Urban Planning and Design from the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra (ETSAUN, 2001), after completing additional studies at the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia (Italy). In 2008, he earned a Master in Design Studies (History and Theory of Architecture) from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design (USA), and in 2013 obtained his PhD in Architecture from the University of Navarra, developed partly during a visiting fellowship at the Harvard GSD (2008–2009).

Research focus: His work explores the intersections between architecture, urban culture, and media, particularly comics, cinema, and videogames, analysing how architecture is represented, theorized, and imagined across different visual and narrative media. His research and visual essays have been published in numerous journals and books, including Menhir, Aequus, (Dis)Courses, (In)Forma, Lars: Arquitectura y Ciudad, URBES, Clog, Flow Magazine, Platform, and Ecological Urbanism (Harvard GSD, 2010). Under the pen name “Klaus”, he has also published illustrations and critical pieces in international magazines such as A10, Arquine, MAS Context, Harvard Design Magazine, and PRAXIS, and his work has been featured in exhibitions in Barcelona, Cambridge, Chicago, London, and Portimão.
