Marta Monzón Chavarrías

Dr. Marta Monzón Chavarrías is Associate Professor of Architectural Construction at the University of Zaragoza (Spain), where she has worked since 2010. She is also a researcher at the Built4Life Lab.

She graduated as a Technical Architect from the University of Zaragoza in 2009, as a Building Engineer from Universidad Alfonso X el Sabio (UAX, Spain) in 2011, and as an Architect from San Jorge University (Spain) in 2021. She went on to complete a Master’s degree in Building Maintenance, Rehabilitation and Restoration at UAX (2010) and a postgraduate degree in Environmental Impact Assessment of Projects at the University of La Rioja (2011). She later obtained her PhD in Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency from the Research Centre for Energy Resources and Consumption (CIRCE) and the University of Zaragoza (2018).

Before focusing on her research and academic career, she gained professional experience by founding a company specialized in building acoustics and managing rehabilitation projects. Since joining the university, she has taken part in numerous research projects and industry-transfer contracts, leading several of them. She has also carried out research stays at the University of Seville (Spain) and the University of Porto (Portugal), which have strengthened her national and international academic collaborations.

Research focus: Her research focuses on building renovation, energy efficiency, and circularity. She places particular emphasis on a practical approach, prioritizing the study and measurement of real cases, as well as the implementation of research outcomes. Additionally, she is especially interested in advancing healthier indoor environments in architecture to improve people’s well-being.
