Irene González Fernández

Irene González-Fernández is PhD candidate under a predoctoral fellowship at the Built4Life Lab, University of Zaragoza (Spain).

She is a licensed Architect and Urban Planner (Rey Juan Carlos University, Spain, 2020) and holds an MSc in Sustainable Architecture from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology – NTNU (Norway, 2023), as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Design (Rey Juan Carlos University, Spain, 2020).

She has actively contributed to European (FME-ZEN, 2022; ARV, 2023) and national (MuWo, 2020–2022; Built4Life Lab, 2023–2025) research projects in Spain and Norway, advancing innovation in sustainable architecture and gender equity. She has also undertaken teaching responsibilities at both NTNU and the University of Zaragoza, and her work has been recognized with excellence awards and scholarships from institutions such as Fundación Arquia (2019), Fundación Mutua Madrileña (2021), Fundación HNA (2022), and the Government of Aragon (2022).

Research focus: Her research rethinks architecture for older people through the lenses of sustainability and feminist ethics of care, aiming to transform residential care models into person-centered, sustainable, and inclusive environments.
