Carlos Beltrán Velamazán

Carlos Beltrán Velamazán is a Researcher at the CIRCE Foundation (Research Centre for Energy Resources and Consumption, Spain) and research collaborator of the Built4Life Lab.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Architectural Studies (2018) and a Master’s degree in Architecture (2019) from the University of Zaragoza (Spain), as well as a Master’s degree in Architectural Heritage Restoration from the University of Ferrara (Italy, 2022). He is currently completing his PhD in the program New Territories in Architecture at the University of Zaragoza, with a dissertation titled Data-driven UBEM methodology with open data and AI for the energy diagnosis of the European building stock: the case of Spain (expected 2025), developed under an FPI predoctoral contract and with an international mention.
During his doctoral studies, he completed a research stay at the Urban Energy Systems Laboratory of EMPA (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology) in Zurich.
Research focus: His work explores sustainability, energy efficiency, and data-driven methodologies for large-scale building energy modeling, particularly the development of Urban Building Energy Models (UBEM) for diagnosing and optimizing energy consumption and CO₂ emissions in urban environments.
